We have been posted to the "desert kingdom" of Saudi Arabia for two years, coming out of a fantastic three-year tour in Budapest (so quite a difference in pretty much every way!). Photography is discouraged here although no longer prohibited by law, but one still has to be very careful what one tries to photograph to avoid trouble with the authorities, meaning absolutely no people in the frames without their express permission, no government-owned buildings (don’t know how one determines that), nothing security related and so on. I hope to be able to find my way around the rules and post images when opportunities present themselves and provide some commentary on what life is like here. In the interim, I’ll continue to work on my other galleries as I have a huge backlog of pictures remaining from Hungary, Barcelona, Oslo, Washington, D.C., and Portland still to process. Good thing, as I fear images from here, at least outside our quarter, will be somewhat hard to come by. Hopefully I’m wrong about that, but I guess we’ll see!
