We have made two trips now south of Riyadh in search of the famous Red Sand Dunes. The first time we simply couldn’t find them, although it turned out we were going in the wrong direction on some highway. This time we made the same mistake but realized it soon enough and turned around, finally coming upon them. The dunes were indeed red and beautiful, despite the huge amount of trash that people leave in the sand; they’re also very popular with the ATV crowd.

I am combining both trips in one gallery since it’s all desert scenery, just on different sides of the Makkah highway (and radically different).
