Sahraa, the Kuwaiti Desert Dog

We have a new member of the family: Sahraa (desert in Arabic), who was rescued from the only animal shelter in Kuwait when it burnt down a few months ago. She is a Kuwaiti desert dog, an indigenous breed in that country and is one of the sweetest dogs I've even had the pleasure of knowing, especially amazing considering she and her shelter mates went through: the fire, the long trip to the States (and then getting stranded in Europe because of the volcano), a short time at the Washington Animal Rescue League, and then adjusting to a new home in a strange country. More of her story is on the first few pictures.

I have seen this breed throughout south-east Asia and it is called something different in each country. They all seem to name it after their own country. It is similar to a dingo in coloring and appearance although it is much tamer. .

We are so enjoying a glimpse into your life with your lovely Kuwaiti Desert Dog. We also have a wonderful Kuwaiti Desert Dog "Tahini" who is 10 years old this month. He is identical in color and conformation to your girl with the same wonderfully expressive ears. He remains extremely active with youthful good looks and the intensely intelligent and discerning eyes of a dog perfectly attuned to his people. Although way too large, he continued to sit on our laps well into his 2nd year. He still likes to "hold hands" with willing friends. Karen Orobey was also responsible for his placement with us; bless her (see Nov 24, 2010 comment)! Hoping you enjoy many more wonderful years with your girl!!

We've had a Kuwaiti desert dog for 6 years who looks almost identical to Sahraa, except she has one ear up and one ear down. It's uncanny how similar their body language is. Beautiful. beautiful dogs.

We also have a Kuwait desert dog. We found her on the street in Kuwait and brought her to the Netherlands. She is wonderful. She is realy amazing and she is the most sweetest dog you can ever have. At this moment we are busy to adopt a secund dog from Kuwait and again a Desert Dog. The desert dog loves intens her boss and she want to stay with you every minute including the night, and our dog does.

Wonderful, these dogs are so amazing. The AFL fire was tragic.

I place dogs from Kuwait here in British Columbia approximately 25 last count. The first three came to us via AFL in early Dec.2006 . Our recent rescues are sent to Canada by Karen Orobey, who saves strays from the street. She is wonderful, fostering, nursing back to health and then raising the funds to send them here. We have adopted two rescues ourselves, Buck and Marsha.
Bless you for giving Sahraa such a wonderful loving home. She will never cease to return your love.

Gosh...what a wonderful dog. She reminds me of my late dog, Pooch, who we think was part coyote due to her speed and her ability to jump literally over a cyclone fence and adjoining hedge.

You're blessed to have such a fine dog.
