Most of us oldie-goldies should have fond memories of a thriving downtown Miami with fancy hotels along Biscayne Boulevard, great first-run movie theatres, and virtually all the stores that were open until 9pm once or twice a week with little or no crime. We also remember an absolutely gorgeous marble library in Bayfront Park and the band shell that attracted sizable crowds at performances. Unfortunately, downtown has decayed over the decades, our library is gone along with the band shell, and they are still trying to revitalize a dead downtown at night and on weekends. However, relatively recent addition of numerous tall residential condominium or rental towers has increased the population living downtown and perhaps someday downtown Miami will thrive again.
