1944 - postcard of Venetian Way postmarked January 7, 1944

Miami, Florida

Thank you to George Masek and Ken Eckert for contributing this image of a postcard written by Ken's uncle, SSgt Harold Grotzinger to his sister Martha Grotzinger (Ken's mother) about brother PeeWee's wedding.

Note that the County Causeway is routed along the west and south sides of now-Watson Island and that Goodyear has a hangar on the island. The Sears store and tower are visible on Biscayne Boulevard. I wonder what happened to the rare sausage tree that is depicted on the card?

All wall-to-wall houses along that side of Venetian Island - no evidence remains of the sausage tree.
