Does anyone have photos of Westland Mall in Hialeah? Specifically the entrance corridor beside the Picadilly Cafeteria? I seem to remember gothic looking sconces with flicker-flame bulbs on the walls.

In speaking with his wife (Karen) this evening, she was unsure who would be administering this site in the future, but was open to suggestions. I worked in Burdines, 163rd St, in the receiving dept. during the summers of 1970 and 1971, while I was on summer break from Univ. of Fla. We used to bring merchandise out to all departments on rolling carts during open hours; I don't think they do it that way now. I got to use one of those big rotating floor scrubbers a few times. They can get away from you! :-)

I worked at Richards also in 1977-79, in Mens Furnishings on the second floor, right at the exit to the parking garage. I went to school right across the street at North Miami Beach Sr High.

I worked at Richard's during the late 1960's and Children's World on 163rd Street. I was working my way through nursing school. Miami was the best!! So many things going on, concerts, politics, great times!! Got to see Jimi Hendrix and Blue Cheer at the Miami Marine Stadium, Janis Joplin at Hollywood Speedway, Donovan at the Jackie Gleason Auditorium. What a decade!! J.F.

I remember going shopping at the both Burdines near Downtown and NMB. I also remember Zayer's across the street from the 163rd street Mall and 54st N.W. 12 ave. It was something we did every Saturday when I was so child. Can you find pictures of McCorey's (not sure of the spelling) that was on Miami Ave and 1 street? The best corndogs, pizza and diner of my childhood.

Thank you for posting, Sue. I love reading memories like yours. I remember going with my father and a family friend up to the 163rd Street Shopping Center while it was under construction because our family friend's company (Jones Shutter) had a contract to fabricate hurricane storm shutters for most of the stores in the center. I thought the center was so far out in the sticks at the time. I would imagine that some of the stores still have those shutters stored in back rooms. And thank you to everyone else for posting their comments and memories. They certainly give more perspective to the old times that the photos alone can't tell us. Don .

I moved to NMB IN 1947, when my dad built our house, one of the 1st in the area, nothing but palmettos and pine trees. 163rd. st was a stony road. We were so excited when we heard that a shopping center was going up there after the road was paved. There was a rumor that there was going to be moving sidewalks LOL. My little sisters walked to the amusement park, rode on the rides & the police brought them home. No one went to jail. One of my 1st boyfriends was the park attendant. After school at NMB Junior High (now JFK) We walked through the shopping center, across the street to Royal Castle for the little hamburgers, French fries & birch beer! Great memories!

great images and great memories. I lived a few blocks from 119 street NW 10ave and the pic from the 50s looks so different. Also, the Burdines 163 street Mall is so iconic. Reminds me of my father who worked there as a maintenance man until it closed in the 80s. thank you for your invaluable historical site of South Florida. You should consider having this made as a printed book. Look into Tigertail in Miami for funding.

In the 60's wasn't the north Wolfie's was across from the Burdines on 163rd St? The other was down on Miami Beach. And our N. Miami favorites: Marcella's and Barbeque Heaven! My Mom once bought an entire fully decorated Christmas tree from Burdines after the holiday. I think it was $25.

Does anyone have a photo of the old Kress store that was around 48 E. Flagler St. - where Flagler Station is now. It was torn down in the mid-80s after almost 60 years. I think this was the original site of Sewell's Clothing Store.

Sharon, if you look two comments down you'll see comments about 163rd Street Shopping Center with the outdoor amusement park and there are comments elsewhere on the site where people have posted about the amusement park. I don't know of any other shopping centers in Dade County that had an amusement park in them. Don

Does anyone remember a shopping center/mall with an outdorr amusement park that had rides for kid? Growing up, I lived with my grandparents in Hollywood, Fa. They would take me there during the 70's. I think this shopping mall was in the Miami/Dade area.

By any chance, does anyone remember the name of the restaurant that was out over "open water" in the Falls mall before Hurricane Andrew. I believe they served mainly seafood and would have live music from time to time.

I enjoyed looking at the picture on here of the 163rd St Shopping Center, as I worked in both the Jordan Marsh Department store and the 163rd St Movie Theater. I remember as a child my parents would bring me to the amusement park area at the center of the shopping center. Life was considerably simpler back than.

does anyone remember a store that was on the west side of 441 heading north just before Zayre, which was on the east side? it was a store kind of like Zayre & maybe even looked like a Zayre. my younger brother & i have gone through all the store names (Grants, Golden Triangle, Richards, JM Fields, Kresge, McCrory's, etc.) - i can't picture it, but my brother swears there was another store we should all remember!

oes anyone remember a small appliance store, much like Lurias, in the Biscayne Shopping Center around 1967? It was a one word name. There was also a same store in the Carol City Shopping Center off 27 Avenue and Miami Gardens Drive.

Hi, someone asked about a big dept. store downtown was it jordan marsh my mother loved that store. the pic. of the 79th st woolco is not the one on 79th. I grew up a couple of blocks away. when they built that my friends and were heartbroken that was our snake catching field haha.

We moved to South Miami in 1957 and I remember being in all of these places. There is one that I can not find though. In the early 60's we had a friend who was a chef in one of the large department stores, and I am thinking it was Burdines in downtown Miami. But I can not seem to find a picture of the glass walkway from the parking garage over to the main store. Does anyone remember the store it might have been?

we moved from NMB to S Miami in 62 and I am surprised to learn that was before Dadeland openned... remember Safety Council, kids on bikes and trikes in the parking lot before Jordan Marsh where they would teach traffic safety? I remember the freeform rocks in Dadeland, long before A/C. Long before Penneys and the East mall. King of the Mall (BK) and a great deli just a few doors up from it. Burdines had a record department then, Beatles Abbey Road was the 1st cassette I ever bought, 1970.

my husband and i are both 37yrs old and we just had the biggest debate about the USA FLEA MARKET and the name of the store it was before they changed it to the flea market. of course i won the argument because he said it was woolworth and i told him it was WOOLCO, and now we have the pictures to show, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SITE!!!

I was the secretary to the Dadeland Mall manager in the early 70's and I remember quite a few things , one is that when they built the sea horse it was a male and most important it came with all the male parts and with a sea horse that big you can only imagine............well after a few months the poor thing had to have a major operation and that part removed................they did a nice patch job and alot of people never new what that patch was all about........
