Does anyone remember the grocery store at 6332 NW 2nd Ave? Was called Hall's Food Store circa 1944-'45 then name changed to M--??something- Supermarket, but it was not Margaret Ann.

My grandmother owned the biscayne Blvd beauty salon from late 60's to 70's are there pics of that establishment it was right next door to the rare coin collection with the emblems on the front window.

Regarding 'The Little Farm Store" at 8360 Biscayne Blvd. My grandfather started that business and my father Don Brady and uncles Duke and Will Brady all ran this together after he passed away. It was an independent grocery store and not related to the Little Farm drive thru's that came along a few years later. I'll have to see if there are any old photos to share.

1950's-open air food market on SW 8th Street at about 6th Ave. the two owners went on a Gulf Stream fishing trip with some other guys, and were never heard from again. Anyone help out with the name of the grocery or the guys? One of the had a daughter named Penny.

The Weinkle family owned many Carl's Markets until they sold to Food Fair in 1954. Most of them had a Weinkle's Liquors attached. No clue if there are photos. I'll check at the family reunion 11-28.

John, thank you for posting. I haven't seen a photo of the Little Farm Store on Biscayne and NE 86th Street, on the west side of the boulevard. I remember it because when I was 5 and 6 we lived a block east of the boulevard at NE 86th Street in 1953 thru 1955 or 56. That's about the only business I remember except for a barber shop just east of the boulevard on NE 85th Street that was named "Joe's Clip Joint" where my dad took me for haircuts. Perhaps someday someone will contribute a photo of the Little Farm Store, which to my knowledge was not connected with the chain of Farm Stores that came about in the 1960's and whose headquarters was out along the northeast corner of the Palmetto and NW 58th Street Don .

What about Little Farms Store, on Biscayne Blvd. and NE 86th St.? Used to go there with my Mother back in the 40s and early 50s. Great store with terrific personal service and excellent butchers.

John, I thought there was only one Shell's Supermarket. I don't remember one near the Orange Bowl at all and we had good family friends who we visited frequently who lived two blocks west of the Orange Bowl and you would think I would remember it. But then again, I didn't know that Burdine's had a store on Biscayne Boulevard and they sold it to Sears but that was 20+ years before my time. Don .

idaho181..We used to shop at Earl's all during the 50's. We lived just north of there. If I recall, the floors in there were all sawdust. We also shopped at the Food Fair on 27th Ave. and 80th St.

These pics do take me back! In 1971 I worked for Kraft calling on independent grocers from Ft.Laud to Islamorada. A favorite lunch stop was Gardner's Market in South Miami for a deli RB sandwich. Good memories from the Little Farm Store on Biscayne Blvd. just North of 62nd St. (it was a combination grocery attached to a laundromat and I believe trailer park). Of course the volume stores back then were the Great Valu in Perrine, Key Largo Shopper, Pic'n'Pay stores, and Thrifty Market at Washington Ave. & 5th in Miami Beach (sold more jellies here than any 5 or 6 Publix's!). Those were the days.

To Carole Valerio [Anderson]re: Fredrick's super market.I worked a a bagger in 1955 &1956.It was a great place to work while I was still in high school. The money we made in tips was the great the hours were easy to match with school schedules.Also Mrs grable was one of my steady customers.She would come in every week to shop. she would always ask for me to bag and carry out her grocories.she always bought many,but was a great tipper.

I'm looking for any photos from the late 40s and early 50s of the old Black Cat Market on the southwest corner of Red Road and 8th Street and/or the Black Cat Tavern next to it. The market faced Red Road and the Tavern faced 8th Street. One of my great uncles owned the market and another one owned the tavern. I need pictures of one or both. I heard there was a Peoples Market on SW 27th Ave.back in the 50's anyone heard of it? I grew up on SW 10th Street and 17th ave 1957-66 then Miami Beach love these old pics!!

Final correction - Biscayne Mkt. was on N.W. 7th Ave & 143rd. The thru road under I-95, I checked a map. It was a popular grocery store in Biscayne Gardens.

Does anybody from North Dade remember the frame country store on N.E. 154 St. before 2nd Ave. Originally built in the 1930's, It was an anomaly because it was in a residential area. Last called The Ponderosa, before that- Clarks Market, before that Todds in the 50's. Also Biscayne Market was on N.E. 7th Ave & 146 St.

During the years 1953-54 I worked for Grables Bakery. Does anyone remember Grables Bakery located in Edison Center? When Fredrick's opened their new market, Grables opened a bakery in the Market and I worked there.

Guest...the factory with the wheel you remember on the Hialeah side of the Airport expressway was the Dixie Lilly plant. They supplied flour, grain products like corn meal, and dried beans. The wheel was a water wheel that turned the mill to grind the grain into flour. They delievered to grocery stores locally. The driver that delievered to my dad's store, Quality Market, was a black fellow named Jimmy, who sang with a gospel group as well. A very nice man with a beautiful voice.

Growing up in Palm Springs North, we initially had a Food Fair that later became Bogaart's, and ultimately a Sedano's that closed. I remember my mom liked the Publix in Miami Lakes and would drive what now seems like an extremely long distance to shop there. She would dump me over at the "barn" so I wouldn't be a nuisance while she shopped. The "barn" was an old, abandoned dairy facility that the Graham's owned if I am not mistaken. For a kid with a wild imagination it made for a good time.

I know exactly what you're talking about. For some reason the name "Dixie Mills" pops up but I don't think that's right. I don't know if it was bakery-related but it had something to do with the processing of food. I'll research it further. Don

As a young child I lived in Carol City and on Sundays my family would load into the car and travel to my grandparents house which was at NW 27th Ave and 33rd street. They lived down the street from where the Aviation Building once stood. The route my father would take is Red Road to Okeechobee Rd and then the Airport Expressway to 27th Ave. As we got onto the Airport Expressway going east, there was some kind of factory on the Hialeah side of the road. I think the building was three floors high. Mounted high up on the side of the top floor was some kind of wheel. At age four I thought it was a Ferris wheel that had long been abandoned. It was like a spooky old ruin. I remember having a nightmare about it. Does anyone remember it? What was it?

The Table Supply stores were an outgrowth of the Davis family's grocery business which started out in wagons then trucks that prowled the neighborhoods selling packaged groceries. They opened stores in the 1940s as Table Supply, but by the early 1950s had changed the name to Margaret Ann. Then about 1954 again changed the name to Kwik Check and eventually in the late 50s early 60s they became Winn Dixie which still exists today. My father drove a meat delivery truck for Cudahey and Armour and later was a meat cutter for the Kwik Check at Sable Palms on NE 2nd Ave and 54th St. He knew the Davis family well and was familiar with the history of this Miami family.

The Grand Union on Tamiami Trail and 61st Ised to be a B Thrifty. I shopped there with my Grandparents when I was a kid, later I was assistant manger when I was 18, before I went to UF

There was a Table Supply Store at SW 8th St. and 52nd. Ave. in the early 50's. It later changed ownership and was a Margaret Ann store until I left Fl. in 1960. I think there was a Food Fair Store several blocks West of that store.

I used to be a cashier at the Grand Union ("Onion") on So. DIxie and Killian Dr. (112th). I sold beer ileegally to my older brother!!!!! My family and I grew up going to Howard Drive Elementary and Palmetto Jr & Sr. High. At that same strip mall "Suniland" there was an old restaurant called the Flame that was popular back then. These are great pics and take me back a long time to a great time in my life. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I remember 'Charley & Charlies' Grocery store on the Trail at about 30th Ave. Also, the Black Cat at (I think) Red and the Trail. And then there was a Margaret Ann (sp.) in South Miami. Anyone else remember these?

We shopped at three groceries near the Orange Bowl, Tanners, A&P on SW 1 st and 12th Ave. Mr Lewin had a small butcher shop and grocery on 4th st and 12th Ave. Mr Karanicas had an open air grocery on fifth street and we always had to go to Little Brown Bettys store on 10th ave and 3 st.

There was one terrific grocery store, locally owned, on NW 7 ave. called Biscayne Market. It would be almost impossible to find a photo of it but that is a part of history of N Miami.

My father, George Roskovich, worked at Arnold's Grocery store in Miami Springs in 1955 to late 1960's for Rock Arnold and I am looking for a picture of the store and any information on the store.
