2009 - Winn-Dixie under renovation with the old Kwik Chek logo underneath the facade

Coral Way and 15th Avenue, Miami, Florida

Thank you to Jon Ullman for contributing this image showing the old Kwik Chek logo that hasn't been seen in decades due to the facade that was built in front of it decades ago. This remodeling job unearthed the old logo until the new facade is completed.

This is great! As the son of Cuban parants who arrived in South Florida in the early 60's, I can finally see where the "qui - che" name for Winn Dixie originated! I used to go to the qui - che as a child with my mother and never knew why I called it that, other than that was what my parents called it. :-)

I drive past this particular Winn Dixie regularly on my commute to/from work and meant to take a picture of it to show my mother, but they "fixed" the new facade too quickly for me.

Glad you posted this!

Excellent example of Urban Archaeology. I love finding things like this. Even back rooms of some old buildings can yield lots of interesting relics. Thanks for submitting these.
