Robert, I changed the date back to the "late 1930's" as it was originally because I have seen color photos, such as the interior of the Hindenburg taken in 1936, that were taken in the late 1930's.

I don't think so, Rob. The closest Richards was on Flagler Street downtown or 13 or so blocks south and a couple of blocks to the west.

ADAL- I think the store you are thinking of that was located by the Sears Store was called "Richards."

When I was a kid, Sears existed. It was located at 15th or 16th. Not only that but, next door was a big retailer ( I forget the name) similar to JC Penny I guess. The big treat was across the street (Biscayne and 16th). It was a store called Jordan Marsh.
It was more swanky than Macy's. Probably compare it to Neiman Marcus, if my memory serves me right. Such fantastic window displays. In that little area there were three stores. When I moved bacck to Miami I found out that they were all demolished. The Arsht Theatre complex sits there now. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, the memories.

I would have to challenged the authenticity of the date of the image below. Color film made by Agfa was manuf. in Germany in 1936, color did not arrive until early 1940's.

It is really something how the Biscayne Bayfront park and where the Library once was.....The Band shell at the south end of the park and what once was pier five on the north end.
So much has changed in the last 69 years just along in this small strip of Biscayne Blvd.
Just think, within the stone throw of this photograph sat the Sears & Roebuck store
which I believe was located at 16th St and Biscayne Blvd.
