2016 Days 11 To 14: Napoli (Naples, City of Napoli (NA)), Campania (Tue 30 Aug To Fri 02 Sep 16)

Welcome to Mars - Brief Visions of Napoli (Naples). Napoli is the third largest city in Italia, with a population of just shy of a million in the city's administrative limits, or over 3 million if you extend it to the total metropolitan area. It sits on the western coast about 225km (140 miles) south of Roma, conveniently located on the Bay of Naples near the active volcano Mt Vesuvius. Yes, as in Pompeii, which is just down the road. THAT Mt Vesuvius. Which is still active.

Where does the first line come from? From what our tour guide said when we were arriving in Napoli:

"Welcome to Mars. It's like another planet here. Keep your eyes all around you, and don't go wandering off randomly. There are a few places where you go in, maybe you don't come out."

He wasn't trying to stereotype the place or make it out as a crime capital. There are some FAR more dangerous cities in the world. However a degree of prudence and vigilance is well advised.
