In the foreground of this shot we see a hydrofoil (un aliscafo) named Aldebaran, which was named after a star. (Also known as Alpha Tauri (not the F1 team), the star is a bit over 65 light years away. When you look at it now you're seeing it as it was in 1955.)
On the website classicfastferries.com, I found a document with the following:
"By 1987, Caremar had taken delivery of five Rodriquez hydrofoils; an RHS 140, two RHS 160s and two RHS 160Fs. Both of the latter remain in service in the area, Aldebaran with Caremar and the former Alnilam with SNAV".
Rodriquez refers to the ship builder. It's sometimes (probably incorrectly) named Rodriguez with a G in English references. The full name was Rodriquez Cantieri Navali, and it was based in Palermo, Sicilia (Sicily). At the end of 2012 it was taken over by Intermarine S.p.A after some disastrous financial results.
Coincidentally between the mid-1960s and the early 1990s, hydrofoils were a common sight on Sydney Harbour. All but one had been built by Rodriquez, two of which were RHS160F models. When it was decided to retire the hydrofoils, most of them were sold back to Italian operators. Also by coincidence the two RHS 160F models were sold to operators in Napoli. (Though obviously this isn't one of them, since Aldebaran went into service in or before 1987 and the Sydney ones were sold in 1992.) The company web page states that she is 233.69 tonnes, has a speed of 30 knots and can carry 210 passengers.
In the distance we can see the Italian naval ship Levanzo, pennant A 5366. This is a Ponza class coastal transport ship, which is tasked with maintaining and modernizing maritime signalling installations, buoys, beacons, lights, etc, as well as supplying fuel, water and supplies to other ships or small islands. The Levanzo was commissioned in September 1989.
