In a previous shot I mentioned the intense glare of the morning light by the water in Napoli. It flattens out a bit as the sun gets higher and takes on a distinctive southern Italian tone later in the day, but early on it borders on the unbearable.
Like many photographers I keep a UV filter permanently on the front of my lenses both to protect the lens, and to cut down on unwanted glare.
Here, I would have needed five of them plus a pair of top end RayBans to hold in front of it.
The glare also conceals that active volcano in the background, making it harder to see whether it has erupted. Of course, if it has we won't have as far to run.
