Indoors privacy is assiduously guarded as can be seen from the drawn shutters and blinds. (In fact, if it had not been, I may well have not been inclined to take shots such as these.) However not all of life fits neatly inside an apartment. The laundry, for example needs fresh air which can only be found in the meagre space of the apartment balconies.
What continues to strike me about these buildings is the contrast between how rundown some of the edifices are, and the sense of order and cleanliness that you can see if you look beyond the weathering. These seem to be house proud homes, just in need of a serious amount of maintenance that there probably isn't the money to do. And yet, the condition of the building on the corner can be compared to that of its neighbouring building on the right. I doubt that the latter was built so very much later than the former, yet it has had the good fortune to have more money and resources spent on it.
