Sitting just near the passenger docks of the Port of Napoli is the Castel Nuovo, which I discussed in image 017312.
Its still an impressive sight, despite its age. I'd say that it would have been interesting to have seen it from the water while it was still new, but it never really was. All castles and fortifications from this era underwent near constant refurbishment and rebuilding over the course of decades or even centuries, so the building that we see now is just one variant of the building that has been here since 1279.
It's actually pretty easy to be blasé about castles like this in the modern age of concrete, steel and glass towers that stretch into the sky, but imagine being a peasant in, say, the 1500s, arriving in Napoli by boat from places where a 2 storey house is a rarity... and this is the first thing you saw. It would be pretty impressive.
