Canyon de Chelly National Monument was established in 1931 to help save archeological ruins inside the canyon area. Many modern Navajo call this place home but occupation goes back thousands of years. The canyons have been used by archaic peoples as well as the Basketmakers, Ancestral Pueblo, and the Hopi. This gallery contains photos of several nice ruins including White House Ruins, Antelope House Ruins, and Mummy Cave Ruins. One of the nice geological wonders of the area is Spider Rock which rises above the canyon floor like a skyscraper.
