Here are some images from the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in California. The bristlecone pine with its twisted look can live for very long periods of time. The oldest Bristlecone Pines in this forest are over 4000 years old making them the oldest trees in the world. The bristlecones in this area tend to grow on dolomite which has a high alkalinity. Other trees can't grow on dolomite soil well and that allows the bristlecones to thrive in a near competition free environment.
