The White Pocket isn't easy to get to. Internet sources usually indicate two ways to enter this area. One way to get there is by 4WD through a lot of sand. The other alternative is to hire a guide to take you in (by 4WD of course). I did something different; I hiked in. I parked my vehicle at Paw Hole Trailhead and walked 7 miles to the White Pocket. The first half of the hike was along a sandy road. I then got off the road and hiked across the desert the rest of the way.
Photography during the day was difficult. It was mostly overcast and the sun often wasn't around to illuminate the landscape. At one point it even rained, hailed, then snowed on me. Fortunately, the clouds dissipated and sun came out right before sunset allowing me to get a few golden hour photos. In hindsight it actually ended up being a good day. Mixtures of sun and turbulent clouds provided me with nice backdrops for my images.
I slept overnight in the area with the hope of taking images at sunrise. Unfortunately, it ended up being overcast.
All images taken with a Digital Rebel XT with various L lenses.
Hehe, thanks for the comment. Yeah, walking to the White Pocket WAS a bit crazy. I'm looking forward to getting back there but I'm hoping next time there will be some water in the area so that I can do some reflection photography. Next time I might just drive in.
