These images were taken at Chaco Canyon over a four day period in November and December 2007. During this time I was able to hike all the trails and visit all the major ruins in the area (about 13 - Wijiji, Una Vida, Hungo Pavi, Chetro Ketl, Pueblo Bonito, Pueblo Alto, New Alto, Pueblo del Arroyo, Kin Kletso, Casa Chiquita, Penasco Blanco, Casa Rinconada, and Tsin Kletsin). Chaco Canyon not only has some great ruins but also some great rock art as well. Chaco culture began around 800 AD and lasted to 1250 AD. It became the cultural, administrative, and economic center for the people of the San Juan Basin. Its buildings were often oriented to solar, lunar, and cardinal directions and line of site was maintained from ruin to ruin making Chaco culture a place of astronomy and communications.
All images taken with a Digital Rebel XT with various L lenses.
