The trip to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, was a 3-day excursion on my Tour of China, after we visited Chengdu. The first day we mainly just flew there and relaxed. Our guide reminded us to make every movement slowly to let the body adjust to the high altitude, to avoid getting dizzy, as Lhasa is located almost 12,000 feet above the sea level. I was well prepared and took a pill before the flight, like what I did in Peru and Yunnan. Another thing that some tourists might find it not easy to adapt to is the local food - if they don't eat lamb.
A superb triptych of your visit to Lhasa. One can see both the changes (for better and for worse) brought by the Chinese occupation, the rituals of Lamaic Buddhism, and the austere beauty of the Potala. Your gallery could be called "Voyage d'une Américaine à Lhassa" in reference to the book by Alexandra David-Neel, "Voyage d'une Parisienne à Lhassa". She was the first woman to enter Lhasa in 1924, then a city forbidden to foreigners.
