One of the reasons I signed up for this tour was Potala Palace. It's called a "palace" but actually it's a monastery. All the time I've longed to see this impressive and dominant architecture. It doesn't have the exquisite and delicate details like the western churches or the Asian temples. From the exterior you only see the simple straight lines, in plain white and crimson colours, nothing fancy, but it appears so powerful and solemn, overlooking the vast Potala square. One day I skipped lunch and told our guide I would meet them later, I went back to Potala Palace. I walked with the Buddhists to the back, not knowing what was there behind the monastery. Voila ! I was jumping with joy to see a park with a lake, reflecting the back side of Potala.
Another few shots I got extra, were Potala by night. It was also not in the group itinerary. I hesitated for a long time and decided to take a taxi there, just with my small camera. Like the design of the monastery, the fountain is also not a fancy one, but it offers you a different image of the lit Potala behind the splash or the mist.
