Shanxi (山西) is a province rich with history and culture value. Back in the Spring and Autumn Period (722–403 BC), the Jin State (晉國) was located at where Shanxi is today, and therefore Jin (晉) has become the abbreviation for Shanxi. This province was the cradle of quite a few very famous classical poets and calligraphers from the Tang Dynasty that we heard of since childhood. Shanxi's ancient city of Pingyao was where the first Chinese banking system originated from. With a large number of historic buildings existing in different cities, plus the incredible Hanging Temple and Yungang Grottoes, Shanxi is absolutely worth a visit. I'm glad I was there.
