Romania

I visited Romania on the same tour as Bulgaria and Serbia. The itinerary included only one full day in Bulgaria, one and a half day in Serbia, but four days in Romania. Bucharest, the capital of Romania, was at the end of the tour. This city has the most impressive architecture, but the weather was the worst of the whole trip.

Dear Denise, many thanks for sharing these beautiful photos, you have broadened my knowledge in history and geography again, very much appreciated! In BUCHAREST Album Photo 10 "She-Wolf" reminds me of one of the history lessons I leaned in Primary 5, I thought this statue is located in Rome but I performed a search on Google and here is the result : "She-wolf Statue from Bucharest represents a bronze copy of the famous statue in Rome, Lupa Capitolina. The statue is the capturing of the she-wolf who, according to the legend, was feeding Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. The Municipality of Rome gave this copy to the Bucharest inhabitants in 1906, as a symbol of the Daco-Roman origin of the Romanians. This year are celebrated 1800 years since the conquest of Dacia by the Romans and 25 years after the crowning of Carol I as the king of Romania. It was initially placed on a stone base inside the Roman Arenas. The inscriptions written on the stone base proved the state’s origin: „Senatus Populus Que Romanus” meaning „The Roman Senate and People”. The statue’s fate was somehow strange, as it was placed in several locations and was stolen many times. Thus, in 1908 it is moved in the Roman Square, then in 1931 on the Metropolitan Hill. In 1965 gets to the Dorobanţi Square and in 1997 it is eventually moved back in the Roman Square. It was completely stolen, or just one of the twins was taken, but in the end it had always been found and returned. There are other copies of the statue in Cluj, Timişoara and Târgu Mureş. Subsequently, many more were mare and placed in dozens of cities in the country. Other copies were given to various countries as a symbol of Rome’s cordial relationship: France, USA, Argentina, Spain, even Japan. This way, the statue-Rome’s symbol- spreads messages of Italian amity all around the world. The original piece seems to date back to the 5th century B.C. and was casted in bronze by the Etruscans, on the Tibru Valley. Its “age” was established by the researchers who studied the bronze cast. Being interesting through its bronze-casted legend, our Romanian origin is recalled by the She-wolf Statue from Bucharest." Thanks again for taking me there! Denise, thank you so much for your picturesque report. Well, I don't think you should complain about Romania, I believe, maybe due to your fabulous photos, the country looks very interesting for visitors. I love your picture no. 32 (Bucharest), very beautifully done !! The castles and monastery collection is also a very interesting view. Interesting: your photo of dinner time in Timisoara, well observed ! Well done, it was not a disappointing trip as far as your photos are concerned. Many thanks for sharing.
