This pattern (no. 1003) for elastic-waisted pants has a side zipper and tapered legs. My first pair were made in a plaid, wool-blend suiting, dark olive or taupe in colour and impossible to photograph accurately. My measurements fall between two sizes so I made the bigger size but used a wider seam allowance. The resulting fit is excellent. To achieve my favourite inside leg length, I added 3cm to the legs, possibly 1cm too much. These high-waisted pants have darts at the waist, one in the back and two in front, so make sure you stitch them perfectly as a bubble at the end of the dart would be conspicuous. This is a quick, easy pattern to run up, and I recommend it, especially when you need new pants in a hurry. The second pair is in a smooth, grey wool suiting with spandex, which drapes beautifully. The legs are 1cm shorter than the first pair, but the difference is not noticeable.
