Blue Castle Canyon is a small area of the Book Cliffs about six miles (10 km) north of Green River, Utah. It drains eastward into the Green River. The canyon is completely hidden from the major roads (I-70 and US 6) and cannot be seen from the city of Green River.

During trips to Moab in 2004, 2005, and early 2006 the landscape called to me so I had to explore it. The first step was to study the area at home using Google Earth. That led me to get a closer view in October 2006---I walked part-way up the access road and was awe-struck by the scenery. More study with Google Earth followed.

Two years later to the day after that road walk I drove most of the way up the road and hiked three miles up the sinuous wash in the canyon. The day started out hazy but the haze dissipated as the day wore on. All but the first two images are from that hike.
