Nürnberg, or Nuernberg, or Nuremberg as it is called in English, has played an important role in the German History for centuries starting from the Middle Ages. It was also because of its importance during the Nazi era, this city suffered severe damage by the Allied strategic bombings. 90% of its old town was destroyed in only one hour. After World War II, it became internationally wellknown because the German officials who were involved in the Holocaust and other war crimes carrying out orders from Hitler, were brought before an international tribunal in the Nürnberg trials.
The first time I went to Nürnberg was 2007. With the main purpose to take some pictures of their old town which was rebuilt after the war, and the Nürnberg Castle (#25 - 28), I was in the city for only a few hours. There were tons of people in the Main Market Square, surrounding the Schöner Brunnen (the Beautiful Fountain). Several groups of tourists were listening to different narrations in different languages around the fountain, mixed with some local inhabitants who used it as a meeting point. I didn't wait too long, but walked to take a photo of the Heilig Geist Spital (Hospice of the Holy Spirit, #36 ) and left. I had not expected that I would miss this old town so much that from time to time I'd want to go back there.
And four years later, I finally did. This time I could photograph the Schöner Brunnen (#4 - 7) to show the colourful sculptures standing in tiers which attract many tourists from near and far.
