Dresden

Dresden has a long history as the state capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendor. The controversial American and British bombing of Dresden towards the end of World War II destroyed the entire city centre. After the war, restoration work started to reconstruct the historic inner city.

Dresden and Poland had a close and multifaceted relationship, particularly in the 18th century, including political ties and cultural exchange. Since German reunification in 1990, Dresden has once again become a cultural, educational and political centre of Germany.
