Located in the wouth-west part of Germany, Heidelberg is a lovely city on the Rhine. You seldom see a city where the biggest attraction for the tourists is the ruin of a castle. The castle of Heidelburg was built in the 13th century, and was destroyed by lightning-bolts and wars and fires in the 16th and 17th centuries. And since the 19th century it has still been in discussion whether or not this castle should be completely restored. This ruin attracts millions of tourists every year, including couples who travel from overseas to have their wedding there.
Me, as a castle lover, visited it twice. I even had the experience of standing underneath the tower of the Old Bridge (photo 18) for almost an hour with more or less 40 tourists squeezed in that small area for shelter from the heavy rain.
It's a nice walk from the castle ruin down to the square and city centre and see the gorgeous architecture of the Church of the Holy Spirit (Photo 10 - 14).
