My friends Amelie and Bernard came all the way from Munster to meet me in a small town near Berlin, and drove me to Magdeburg. First we went to see the Rothensee ship lock and went up the observation tower to view the operation. Yet, our main purpose was to see the amazing Magdeburg Water Bridge, which we reached after a brief city walk.
The 918-meter long Magdeburg Water Bridge is the longest navigable aqueduct in the world. It connects the Elbe-Havel Canal to the Mittelland Canal thus allows ships to cross over the Elbe River. We waited there long enough, but didn't see one single ship sailing on it. However, our disappointment was compensated by the spectacular sunset in that area.
The bonus was the Hundertwasserhaus. It was the first time I saw it besides in Vienna, Austria.
