Cooking has always been one of my passions – and being an experimental scientist, I love to experiment. I read cookbooks
avidly (I have a collection of more than 200, now!) though these days I tend to seek inspiration more often on the internet.
Rarely, though, do I follow a recipe closely (unless it's a cake, for example, where ingredients and quantities matter),
and frequently improvise, not always successfully, but we've never gone hungry! As a little project to keep me active,
I decided to start this gallery to document my/our culinary efforts and to play around a little with food photography.
I've included some info on each dish, a sort of recipe, though not necessarily with precise quantities and instructions
– you can work those out for yourselves if you wish. Most of the dishes here were made for two people.

The title of this gallery is a quote from George Meredith, a Victorian novelist and poet, which appeared on the cover of an
ancient cook book called "The Art of Fine Baking", dating back to the 1960s, and one of the seminal works in my collection.
I thought this title was perhaps a tad more apposite! (I originally called the gallery "Food Porn", which is a family joke!
My younger daughter frequently sends us images from her mobile phone of food she's eaten when out, especially things like
cream cakes, and these have become known in our family as "food porn"!)

A note on quantities: I tend to use measures rather loosely, referring to glasses or cups of liquid somewhat interchangeably!
A cup would typically be about 250 ml, while a glass would be 150 ml or so. Most of the time, these volumes are approximate,
as I judge by eye rather than scales! Also, Tbs = tablespoon, tsp = teaspoon!
