Chilli Beach is a camping area within the Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park on Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. I have no idea how the beach acquired that name. Notwithstanding its remoteness, the Iron Range area was a major Australian-American airbase during World War II, a forward defense against possible invasion by the Japanese and base for bombers flying to New Guinea. I can only guess that the abundant and now completely feral population of Coconut Palms hales from that era, as these are apparently not native to the area. Chilli Beach faces across the entrance to Lloyd Bay ( https://pbase.com/donfranklin/image/159351518 and three following images) to the outer Great Barrier Reef 40 km offshore and thence to the Coral Sea.
