# Chillagoe #

Situated on the edge of the great Australian outback in north Queensland, Chillagoe was once a thriving industrial town with a copper smelter that employed 1,000 people. Now it is a pleasantly sleepy village of 300 people who live under the intense outback sun and survive with several small mines and marble quarries, and tourism associated with the history and landscape. The landscape includes a striking set of karsts (limestone outcrops) and the many associated caves.
