During our week stay in Cooke City we made several excursions into Yellowstone to hike in the Canyon area, fish at Trout Lake, look for wildlife, and enjoy the scenery. Last year we had an extra day after the Wind River Range and lucked into a room in the park. We liked seeing the geysers in the Old Faithful area and especially loved seeing Castle Geyser erupt during a full moon. We enjoyed this stay so much that this year we planned an extra day in Yellowstone and booked a room at the Old Faithful Inn ahead of time. This was an awesome location and we went for the "Geyser Grand Slam" - seeing all the geysers within walking distance in the Upper Geyser Basin erupt (we didn't include Fountain since it was some distance away). We were lucky with the timing and were able to watch Old Faithful, Grand, Riverside, and Daisy Geysers all erupt in succession. We almost had Castle Geyser, but were chased inside by a thunder storm. Although I did see Castle erupt at sunrise the following morning, which was spectacular. As always, Yellowstone delivers and we enjoyed our time in the park!
