Grand Geyser

We planned the rest of our day around the geyser eruptions (we were going for the Geyser Grand Slam!). We checked into our room at Old Faithful Inn and had an early dinner. One of the best parts of staying here was being able to walk to all these geysers (we were maybe two minutes away from Old Faithful). I would highly recommend staying here for anybody planning a visit to Yellowstone.

Anyway, we finished dinner and when we walked outside Old Faithful was about to erupt. Keeping an eye on the time, I continued on to Grand Geyser. The predicted eruption time was 6:45 +/- two hours. It's quite a long window to wait (we packed a bag with books and snacks to wait it out), but the ranger told us it had been erupting on the early side lately so I wanted to get there early just in case. Good thing because I just got to Grand Geyser when it erupted. What an awesome sight!

Grand Geyser is the tallest predictable geyser in the world and is a classic fountain geyser. An average eruption lasts 9-12 minutes with 1-4 bursts, sometimes as high as 200 feet. It erupts every 7-10 hours. With fewer eruptions and a large prediction window, we were thrilled to see it erupt!
