Doesn't he look good now!
After the recent rains (we had 89mms) the koala looks so clean and refreshed!
Here he is low down on a tree, I walked right up to him to take this photo.
After sitting here a while he wandered off to find another tree to climb.
I had been wandering around the garden with my D40 and macro lens, so this
is what I used for this photo. BEST IN ORIGINAL FORMAT.
Here is another photo of Flossie, continuing on from yesterday's photo
when she badly wanted Dad to lift the old freezer... now she wants
help finding a skink hiding under a wheelie bin.

Much happier
He seems to be getting quite used to Dick and me; this morning he
ambled down our driveway, Flossie looked the other way, and Dick
saw him climb into this Lilly Pilly tree where he is content to
stay and sleep until night fall.

Stressed koala
Poor little koala accidentally upended the bird's water dish, luckily I fixed the dish
and gave the koala a squirt with the hose to cool him down... he's content to stay here all day until the cool change arrives.
We've had 5 days over 40 degrees Celsius, yesterday reaching close to 44C up here in the hills where we live. We're waiting for the change
this afternoon and a return to livable weather for us, the animals and garden.
Update: Koala has moved into a eucalyptus tree to have a meal, and the cool change has arrived!

Honeyeater in the Kurrajong tree
Getting the feathers dry after an evening bath. A favourite spot for the task.

Wake up sleepyhead!
He's back in his favourite tree, up a bit higher, so not so good for photographing.
I tried waking him with a few snorts, but he just couldn't be bothered!

Wattlebird in the cedar
Just a fleeting chance to take this, & he was gone!
You can see his eye better in the original format.

Noisy Myna
So tame they almost got up onto the table with our food while we were picnicking in the park!

New Holland Honeyeater on a roseshrub
He's the one who has to keep watch for anything dangerous - with a piercing high pitched call that penetrates for quite a distance. You can see the damage done to my rose shrubs with the extended drought, scorching days and tight watering restrictions! This is a wonderful old rose, not sure exactly which one, they all merge together like an impenetrable jungle!

Magpie in a gumtree
The whole family were hanging around these trees, but I only managed to capture this bird. I'd been looking for the wedged-tailed eagles that had been hovering earlier, but they'd moved on.

Please go away, I want to sleep!
What a comfy spot for a koala - even if it was 38C at the time!

Sleepy koala
Another hot day, the koala is making the most of a shady spot in a tree.

Tired little koala
A couple pulled up in their car to take photos of the little koala, so
I got my camera out and took a few photos myself. The couple were from
overseas and this was the first koala they'd seen since arriving in
Australia. This is the same baby koala I have featured
from time to time, but he's in a different tree today.
Today the temperature reached 37.4C, that's about 100-F, and quite hot.

Young wren in the leaf litter
The little wren was quite curious and stayed for a few
moments, long enough for me to get a handful of
reasonable shots.

Tree branch
Up high in the ancient eucalyptus tree
The old tree, which could be 300 years of age, houses'a swarm of
bees, several birds nest in the many cavities and a pair of ducks
nest high in the tree each spring. There's often a koala
amongst the many branches, and I've seen ring-tailed possums
sunning themselves on a bare branch.

New Holland Honeyeater
Sitting in a self-sown ash tree - we have plenty of these trees along our roadside, they grow like weeds. The bird has just had a bath in one of the birdbaths in one of our bush gardens.

As small as a gumleaf!
This is one of the junior fairy wrens that were bobbing around in the summer
grasses this morning. Most of my shots were just a blur where the bird WAS
when I focussed, this shot actually captured him - just!

Little bird watching the skies above her home
It seemed to me that she had built her nest in the big hollow of the tree and was keeping watch - she didn't move off when I appeared below her but stayed watching.

Mother wren watching me
Her nestlings were out and about foraging amongst the dry grasses, both father and mother had their eye on me, but mother got close enough for me to capture a shot of her.

but these are still up in the tree for this shot. Diffuse filter.
