2016 Day 07 Part 2: Verona, A Lunchtime Stop (Fri 26 Aug 2016)
Il Veneto is one of the 20 regions of Italia. It is located in the north east of the country, bordering the Adriatic sea. At 18,345 sq km (7,083 sq mi), it is the 8th largest of the regions, though with a population of about 4.9 million it is 4th on that ranking.
Its main claim to fame is the presence of Venezia (Venice), though about 100km to the west of there is the city of Verona, home to about 260K people and the setting for Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. We stopped here for a lunch break during the 2016 trip and liked it so much that we decided to return for a couple of days in the 2019 trip. Unfortunately we were a bit deluded with the place largely because of the staff at the Teatro romano de Verona. That's a story for another time.
