160826_131229_0771 In The Piazza Dei Signori III, And Stealing Garry's Thunder

Verona, Veneto, Italia

Looking further left still from the previous shot, the statue of Dante still dominates but equally noticeable is the scaffolding on the pink building, which is a relatively unremarkable Renaissance building called the Casa della Pièta. Clearly it's the home to some kind of restaurant or café, which we didn't have a chance to sample.

Rush, rush, rush.

The casa apparently has a bas relief of a seated woman with a flag on its façade, but we didn't get the chance to see it; it may have been buried under the scaffolding.

One of my travelling companions, the aforementioned Garry, had made shooting scaffolding an art form in the target rich environment of Italia. Here I'm afraid I steal some of his thunder but hey, Italy... there will be scaffolding in your frame somewhere!

To the left of the casa is the Domus Nova, directly opposite the Palazzo Del Governo that was in the first of this series. This was the house and office of the Podestà, the high official or chief magistrate of the town. This was in the days before people like the Big Dog (Cangrande I, discussed earlier) turned the cities into something one step shy of hereditary monarchies. Back then the courts were also housed here.
