No, I didn't get turned around and sent back to Rome. This is not the Colosseum. However there are other amphitheatres left over from the Roman era. Not many, but a few. Verona has one of them.

We did a walking tour of Verona, but I'm not sure how much we took in. However everyone was quite smitten with the place and felt that exploring it in detail would take a lot more than the whopping 40 minutes (including lunch) that we ended up with.

Operas are still performed inside the amphitheatre. None of the four of us are opera fans but we all agreed that we would like to return to Verona just for the experience of seeing one here.

And that may yet happen.
