160826_131223_0769 In The Piazza Dei Signori I

Verona, Veneto, Italia

The building on the right is the Palazzo Del Governo. Built in the 13th century, at one time it was the residence of Cangrande, the Veronese ruler who I discussed in an earlier photo. Note the crenulations at the top of the building; to those in the know in the 13th century they marked this town as owing allegiance to the Holy Roman (no he wasn't) Emperor, rather than the Pope.

The building on the left is the late 15th century Loggia del Consiglio, originally the meeting place of the town council but now, like the Palazzo to its right, part of the offices of the provincial administration.

Apparently there are some excellent frescoes in the upper section as well as inlaid colour marble in the windows, but this can't be seen from the outside and it's only rarely open to the public.

The group of tourists is of more recent origin, some from our group, some not. Hi Peter and Monica, on the incredibly improbable chance that you ever see this shot.
