The Grey Lourie (or Grey Go-Away-Bird) is a drab member of the Turaco family. It is commonly found in large noisy groups in acacia savanna and open woodland. Photographs taken at Epako Lodge, Shakawe Lodge and Waterberg.
My cats unfortunately have caught two baby loeries on different occasions and both times the parents come back daily for about a week to 10 days to 'mournfully call' for the chick. Amazingly I was able to verbally mourn with them and they seemed to respond by hopping closer towards me and tilting their headsto the sound of my voice! Is it true that parents usually evict the chick at a certain stage which makes them vulnerable to predators>
