(ploceus velatus)
This bird has some other name variants - Vitelline Masked Weaver and African Masked Weaver. It is a member of the large and confusingly similar family of African weavers. It is perhaps one of the easier ones to identify with its red eye and black face. It is common throughout Africa being found widely in savanna, fields and gardens. Photographs taken at Gammams water treatment plant near Windhoek, at Solitaire on the Namib-Naukluft plain and at Okakuejo Camp, Etosha National Park.
