My mother, Ina Teich, was born Sabina Szuldiner in 1908 in Warsaw, Poland. She lived with her parents on Niska Street (which later became part of the Warsaw Ghetto) until she and my father were married in April 1938. They left Poland for Cuba later that year and lived there for about two and half years. My mother, who applied for an immigrant visa to the United States under the Polish quota, was admitted first, in March 1941. My father, who was under the Romanian quota, arrived later. After a few months in New York City, they moved to Chicago where my sister and I were born. Many years later, after a brief stay in South Florida, they moved back to New York City, where my father died in 1968. After retiring from her job in a New York bank, my mother moved to Washington to be near my sister and me and her grandchildren. She died in 1987. I have created this gallery in honor of the centennial of her birth as a chronicle of her life. The description under each picture provides more detail on the picture and its significance.
