At the textile show - 1957

Chicago

My father became a textile salesman in the late 1940s, representing textile mills to customers in Chicago and parts of the Midwest (including southern Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana). This photo - part of the first roll of slides I took with my new Argus C-3 - was taken at the annual textile trade show at the Palmer House in Chicago, where my mother helped him exhibit his firms' wares. Highlight of the exhibit was a display of the new synthetic wonder fabric, Acrilan. My mother was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own and Judy’s clothes from my father’s samples and other fabrics he was able to obtain for her.
