My sister Judy and I threw a party for my mother’s 75th birthday in Judy's apartment in Washington, in August 1983. She looks quite well in this shot. In fact, she had been diagnosed with cancer four years earlier. After treatment, she was in remission and remained in reasonably good health for several years afterward. Eventually,however, the disease caught up with her and she died in late 1987.
