CAMERAS

Here are a few cameras I have, which you may see mentioned at times in my galleries.
Many I have owned for a long time, and used many times. The others, mostly, I have been
given. A few I have acquired quite inexpensively. I do not have any 'new' cameras.

Basically, all film cameras are a light tight box, with a lens and shutter. If they are (1) still light
tight, (2) the lens is present and can be focused, and (3) the shutter still works,
they will make images. If they don't work, I still have them because I am addicted.

Dear Guest ! Yes, it is true. But not so obscene I think. Many of them are those I have purchased to use during the 55+ years I have actually been making photographs. (I am not a young man.) I have never "traded in". Many others I have been given by friends and neighbours, or by my family members. And the rest have been bought very cheaply at Charity Shops etc (where the proceeds have gone to a good cause.) So, my conscience is clear. What I think IS obscene is that so many film cameras are being thrown away instead of being recycled. BTW, I don't view this collection as mine - one day it will all be in some place where others can view the history. :-)) Thanks for the visit. Colin

I just started collecting cameras early last year. The first one that caught my attention is a dirty Pentax Spotmatic at a local Salvation Army Store. I bought it because my Dad had one and got stolen a long time ago. I have quite a few now; though not as impressive as yours. I get mine mostly from thrift stores I come across while driving to different places I go. One I consider unique is a Toyoca 6 folding camera; my latest -Mamiya ZE2.

A wonderful collection of cameras! I can remember licking the flash bulbs before inserting them for a picture. My children are on super 8 movies... no sound! What I would give to hear their little voices as children. Technology... some days I curse it, but much of the time I praise it. Just wish I could keep up with it!

Colin, This gallery is out of this world. Man I love the Zeiss Ikon! If you like the M3, you will appreciate the viewfinder of the Zi. The extra stop of light is also a bonus. It's not built with metal and brass like the Leica, but it is not a Leica, it's a Zeiss Ikon.
