Tent Rocks National Monument

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument is locaed 40 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Here the cream-colored cone-shaped rock formation is one of the most unusual sight in New Mexico. These tent rocks are formed by the protection of hard resistant rock from the erosion of volcanic ash and tuff deposited 6-7 millions years ago.

Visitors can hike the 1.5 mile Canyon Trail which goes through a slot canyon and up onto the mesa, leading to great views of the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains.

Kasha-Katuwe is the Cochiti name for the area and means "white cliffs" in Keresan, the traditional language for the Pueblo de Cochiti.

This natioinal monument is not managed by National Park Service, rather by the Bureau of Land Management.
