Named after saguaro cactus, this national park is located near Tucson, AZ. Occupying an area of 91,327 acres, the park is divided into two disjoint districts on the east and west sides of downtown Tucson. On the east side is the Rincon Mountain District, while the west side is called Tucson Mountain District.
The saguaro is a tree-like cactus and is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. It can grow up to 40-50 feet (12-15 meters) tall and live over 200 years. However, they grow very slowly at first, only an inch (2.5 cm) in the first six to eight years. It may take 70 years before they sprout the first branch or arm. They reach full height, 40-50 feet (12-15 meters), at about age 150.
These pictures were taken during a morning visit to the Tucson Mountain District (Saguaro West) in 2010 and a two-day visit to both Tucson and Rincon Mountain districts (West and East) in March, 2026.
