We loved being in Luang Prabang for 16 days and would happily return. The former capital of Laos has a UNESCO world heritage district, a beautiful setting among green hills and beside two rivers, many wats, saffron-clad monks, colonial buildings, good food, and bicycling opportunities. I have put in a variety of photos, which I hope will give some idea of the great combination of sights that weave together in this mellow place.
The first photo shows monks coming down the street in front of our accommodation to collect morning alms.
This is a different type of procession crossing a bridge reserved for motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians
We came across a bush full of butterflies on one of our bicycle days
The wats were quite different from what we had seen in Thailand
Kids had a great time playing on inflated slides beside a market
Barb had a great time cycling into the countryside
My favourite temple was a beautiful, tranquil place
It is said that Laos is the most bombed country in history. There are thousands of pieces of "unexploded ordinance" (UXO) buried in the countryside, much of it from cluster bombs. This photo was taken at an information centre.
