Yangshuo is a town surrounded by a remarkable landscape of “karst mountains” that rise dramatically among rice paddies and orange groves. Sometimes appearing translucent and having unique shapes, these mountains have inspired classic Chinese images in paintings and poetry.

We bicycled for several days in the area. The cycling is great because you are on relatively flat land, but can ride among the mountains and farmland to small villages.
Barb made a friend along the way who was clearly taken with her tucked trouser leg.
Walking up “Moon Hill” is one of the must-do activities in the area. The views are unworldly.
