We spent four nights in Luxor, a one hour flight south of Cairo. The Luxor area is home to many significant sites including beautiful temples and the "valley of the kings."
One of our days was spent on foot visiting temples on the east side of the Nile. This photo shows some of the huge pillars at Karnak.

Pieces of buildings and statues litter many of the sites. Archeological work is ongoing. We noticed projects run by two American universities.

We visited the Luxor Temple later that day. Here, the pillars dwarf a tree in the late afternoon light.

The day ended with a beautiful sunset on the Nile. We watched the sailboats (feluccas) coming back to their docks.

The next day, we rented bicycles and took them on a ferry to the west bank.

Our specific destination was the Temple of Hatshepsut. Greg had seen it 20 years earlier, when it was still being painstakingly pieced back together.

We greatly enjoyed the trip to the temple through the Nile's fertile plain.
Greg posed for this photo on a small rural road.

We took the ferry back to the east bank and recorded this peaceful scene at the end of the day.
