Mission Santa Barbara, a living place of worship.
(Seen on 22.Dec.2024) Founded by Padre Fermín Lasuén on December 4, 1786, the feast day of Saint Barbara. 10th Mission of California. Fermin Lasuén succeeded Junipero Serra as the Mission President. The official site of the mission shows stunning amount of people showing for religious events in this 'material' coastal City of the "Rich and Famous." A testament to the power of Catholic Church. Because this mission is an active parish, plan your visit accordingly to explore the church and missions cemetery with its artwork. The church and its premises are closed for the duration of the services. Mission Museum is rather small, can be explored in mere few minutes. Behind the church is a cemetery and several mausoleums. Access is only through the church. Across the street is the Mission Historical Park recreational area, popular with locals. |
